Biographical Sketches
It is really difficult to write a
biographical sketch about yourself, even when you have to do it in the
form of a résumé for business purposes. Of course, for the résumé there
is no question that you are trying to promote your accomplishments and
qualifications. For a biographical sketch that is to be read by former
classmates that are interested in knowing what you have done in your
life and what influenced your key decisions along the way, it is
frightening to think that you will be coming across as pompous and
egotistical when you list your accomplishments—no matter how carefully
you phrase or understate them. Consequently, it is difficult to find
those that are brave enough to give it a go in the interest of
influencing others, to open up a bit and share some of their life’s ups,
downs, joys, and heartaches.
A few arms got twisted in putting
together the three initial biographical sketches that are included here.
Hopefully, there will be many others that enjoy getting to know former
classmates in a more meaningful way and will themselves undertake to
produce a sketch. The first three sketches are totally different in
style and content, and they should serve as an example of just how
varied the style must be for different individuals to feel at least
somewhat comfortable about sharing parts of their lives. If you find
these sketches informative and interesting, give us yours, in a style
that best suits you and what you have to say. If you just can’t feel
comfortable with a more revealing approach, at least go back and look at
the information collected for our fortieth reunion booklet and provide
us with an update covering the last ten years. Thanks!
