Fiftieth Reunion

This activity was planned
and coordinated by Jimmy and Kiddy Starboard. Although Kiddy
worried about it a lot as the time drew near, it came off without a
hitch. Kiddy supplied the following write-up, particularly for
those that couldn't attend:

"As we traveled along the winding, narrow road lined with ancient
oak and pine trees toward the James River Country Club on Sunday
morning, there was a chill in the air and a gray, overcast sky; but
by the time everyone arrived for the final event of our 50th
Reunion celebration, the atmosphere inside was filled with warmth,
joy and a sense of appreciation and affection for those classmates
we had known and grown up with from our childhood through our
youth. Everyone seemed to cherish these moments of friendship and
fellowship, knowing the time would be brief.
"Many were able to make the early morning hour of Sharing Our Faith
and agreed that it truly was a special time of blessing for us.
There were 61 registered for the breakfast/brunch and everyone
seemed to enjoy the diverse menu of scrambled eggs with cheese,
Belgian waffles with syrup, crisp bacon, maple sausage links,
country ham and creamed chip beef; also home fries, grits, fruit
breads, muffins, Danish, fresh fruit bowl, chilled juices, coffee
and tea.
"Jimmy Horton, our class president, acknowledged the individuals who
had worked on the Committee and thanked them for their hard work; he
presented a token of appreciation to Jimmie Michie, who chaired the
Committee. A few gag gifts and some laughs were also the order of
the day.
"The dining room, with its sparkling chandeliers, panoramic view of
a serene James River, and cheerful golden mums with typhoon blue
ribbons created an elegant and peaceful setting for the conclusion
of a jubilant celebration of graduation from Newport News High
School. May we enjoy many more such occasions!"
