How to Submit
Photos, Other
Graphics, and Memorabilia
We need your photos and
any other graphics or memorabilia pertinent to our 50th
class reunion, and we want to make it easy to submit
them to us. However, we do not want to be given the
responsibility of returning such materials and have them
go astray somewhere in the process. Consequently, please
do not submit materials that you are unwilling to part
with.
Having said this, the
Web site staff will make every effort to return photos,
graphics, and memorabilia if you cannot provide copies,
but our preference is to receive legible copies, or even
better, to receive digitized copies of your materials in
standardized formats that are easily viewable on the Web
site. There are many possible ways to submit the graphic
material, and following is a list of decreasing
preference by the Web site staff. Pick the method that
matches your computer skill level and equipment or
software capability best, but please pick the one that
is most favorable for us (we have less work to do to get
it on the Web site) that you can provide.
Digital
photos or scanned photos and graphics,
preferably in .jpg format (other standard
formats like .tif, .bmp, and .wmf are okay,
they are just larger files) with the average
snapshot-sized photo reduced to about 100
kilobytes when compression software is
available. These can be transmitted to the
Web site staff via e-mail in groups of no
larger than 1 megabyte (to get under e-mail
size restrictions) at a time. If you have a
bucket-load of stuff and CD burn capability
(a diskette doesn’t hold much but you can
use them if you want), put it all on a CD
and send it to us by postal mail.
Good quality
copies (note that ordinary copy machine
copies of photos are usually inadequate) of
the photos, graphics, or documents that you
do not need to have returned sent via postal
mail. The Web site staff will scan and
compress them.
Send a letter
or e-mail to the Web site staff telling us
what you have to offer and the fact that you
want the material returned. We will get back
with instructions on how to get it to us,
and we will do our very best to return the
materials in a timely manner.
When the Web site staff
gets your material, they will use it in the manner that
best fits the Web site’s organization. Since the Web
site will be up and running at least through 2005, that
might mean your material will be scattered over that
time period in an effort to keep the site fresh and
interesting. Bear with us.
When you send us your
photos, graphics, or document copies, please take the
time to identify part or parts of the material that are
pertinent to your classmates, e.g. who is who in a group
picture, at what event or where the picture was taken,
what the graphic represents, or what the document is
when it is not self-evident. Use sticky notes and/or
written descriptions to do this when you are sending
copies or originals, and the staff will figure out the
best way to convey the message with the displayed
material. When you are providing electronic media, send
a hard copy with the same information as above or
provide a duplicate electronic file that is annotated
using whatever software (Microsoft compatible) you have
available.
Finally, if you have any
questions, e-mail, phone, or send a letter to the Web
site staff. Don’t be daunted by a perceived lack of
computer skills. We need your input!
