2010
Dear NNHS ‘55
Classmate,
It’s hard to believe,
but today is the 55th anniversary of our
graduation from Newport News High School, and we want to
provide you with all of the information about the plans
we have made to celebrate this significant occasion.
The dates for the 55th
Reunion are Wednesday, October 13 for Dinner and
Thursday, October 14 for the Brunch. We chose the
mid-week times for a number of reasons, among them being
that rates for using facilities are lower, hotel and
plane fares are better, highways are less crowded, and
people with season tickets for their favorite football
team can still make it to the game on Saturday. We have
tried to make this event as convenient and
cost-effective as possible.
We will be gathering
at the James River Country Club (JRCC) for dinner,
dancing and socializing on Wednesday, October 13,
4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. There will be a cash bar
from 4:00 ‘til 6:00. A plated dinner will be served at
6:30 consisting of:
Petit Filet Mignon.
Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake, Golden Yukon Mashed Potatoes,
Fresh Green Beans, Tossed Salad, Hot Rolls, Coffee and
Tea.
After dinner, we can
dance to the music of the 50’s which will be provided by
a DJ.
The cost for this
evening’s event will be $42.00 per person.
We will gather for
Brunch at the JRCC on Thursday, October 14 at 11:00
a.m. and a buffet will be served at 11:30 consisting
of:
Cheese Scrambled Eggs,
Crispy Smoked Bacon, Edward’s Maple Links, Stone Ground
Grits, Buttermilk Biscuits w/assort. Jellies, Fresh
Fruit Bowl, Coffee/Tea
We can linger after
the Brunch and visit with classmates until 2:00 p.m. The
cost of the Brunch Buffet is $12.00 per person.
The JRCC will try to
accommodate anyone with food allergies or special
dietary needs. If that is the case for you, please
indicate in a note what you are able to eat when you
send your check to me.
Dress for these two
events is "Country Club Casual": a nice pants suit for
the ladies and sports shirt or jacket for the men (no
dress shirt or tie is required). No jeans or T-shirts.
For directions to the JRCC, see enclosed Map I.
Jerry Hedgepeth has
invited everyone who is in town on Tuesday, October
12 to a Pizza Party at his home in
Williamsburg. The party will begin at 5:00 p.m. and
dress is very casual (jeans are ok). Since Jerry and his
wife, Liz , work for Colonial Williamsburg, they have
agreed to conduct a walking tour of the restored area
for anyone who would be interested. For those who would
like to take this tour, you are to meet at Jerry’s
house, 123 Yorkshire Drive (see enclosed Map II) at 3:00
p.m. There is no cost involved for this event, Jerry has
it covered; however, he would like to know how many he
might expect so he can have plenty of pizza. If you plan
to attend the Pizza Party at Jerry’s on the 12th,
just indicate that in a note when you send your check
for the Dinner and/or Brunch
We realize that, for
various reasons, not everyone will be able to attend
this Reunion; however, if there are financial
constraints which would stand in the way, we want you to
know that we have extra funds from previous functions
which are available to assist in your being able to
attend. If this is the case for anyone, you just need to
send me a note advising of the situation; I assure you
it will be kept confidential.
Since it is uncertain
as to how many more of these reunions we will be having,
we hope you will make every effort to join us for our 55th.
Make your check payable to:
"NNHS Reunion 55
" in the amount of $42.00 per person for Dinner
only or
$54.00 per person
for Dinner & Brunch
Mail your check to:
Kiddy Starboard, 140 Monica Drive, Newport News, VA
23606
The deadline for
getting your check to me is September 15, 2010,
but the sooner the better because we need to make a
deposit to the JRCC; and we would like to have some idea
of how many will be attending. Even if you can’t get
your check in early, it would be helpful if you could
get a note in the mail that you will be attending.
It’s really fun to
reminisce about those care-free days when we were young,
so we hope you will make your plans now to join us in
October; you will be glad you did and so will we! And
don’t forget to bring your camera--we want lots of
pictures!
See you at the
Reunion!
Kiddy Starboard,
Chairman
Your Reunion Committee
P.S. One more thing.
If any of you would like to help with the expenses of
postage, paper, envelopes and the cost of maintaining
our web site ($150 annually), slip an extra check in the
mail to me made payable to NNHS Reunion 55. Every
little bit helps us to stay in touch with you. Thanks!
